Having to suffer with warts, whether common warts, planters warts, or even genital warts is no fun. Along the road to finding out how to treat warts, it will help you make a better treatment selection if you know what causes warts and the different types of warts. This article will explore the main causes and types of warts, and lead to treatment options for wart removal. With that in mind, what are warts? What causes them?

Although a wart is harmless and not something that will cause you great harm, they do tend to cause embarrassment. Warts are caused by the HPV virus. HPV stands for human papillomavirus. There are more than 100 types of HPV. HPV gets into the top layer of skin and infects it. This causes the top layer of skin to grow super fast resulting in a wart. Warts are known to appear in all parts of the body. Left untreated, they can take months or years to go away on their own. What causes warts to spread?

Warts can be spread very easily. Simple contact with HPV can lead to warts. If you have a wart, by simply touching it and then another part of your body will spread the virus. Sharing personal hygiene items such as razors, or towels will spread the virus as well. Once infected, it can take several months for a wart to appear. Genital warts are spread through sexual contact, and are spread very easily. What are the different types of warts?

There are several different types of warts. Common Warts are the ones that usually appear on a persons hands. They are shaped like a dome and are rough on the surface. Planters Warts appear on the bottom of your foot. These warts can be very painful when you are walking. They look like a big patch of thick skin. The small flat warts that appear on a persons arms, legs or face, are called Flat Warts. Filiform Warts show up on the face. These warts are flesh colored. Those warts that appear under the fingernails or toenails are called Periungual Warts. They look like bumps and can impede proper nail growth. Genital Warts are found in the genital area of both men and women. These types of warts grow in clusters. They are thought to increase the risk of cervical cancer in women. How do you treat warts?

There are several methods on how to treat warts. Most people use an over the counter product with Salicylic Acid in it. These products are either in a concentrated bottle containing Salicylic Acid, or adhesive pads with this solution on them. For a complete list on how to treat warts, see below.

Plantars Warts & Duct Tape

Plantars warts and duct tape... You probably think I am crazy; but I am not. First of all, let me tell you about my personal experience with plantars warts and duct tape.

My daughter who is eleven years old has had plantars warts for approximately the last year. I have taken her to several dermatologists and most recently a podiatrist. I learned through a ton of research that she had plantar warts but they spread at a rapid rate.

I began seeking treatment immediately but they kept spreading so that she had in excess of fifty all over her feet. There were plantars warts everywhere! I was desperate?but plantars wart duct tape?I was not convinced!

At first the doctors were concerned with how much the warts were spreading and why they were spreading at such a rapid pace.

The third and final doctor we went to advised us that we should try burning some of the larger areas with the cryotherapy (freezing the warts). We did this but the pain was so intense it would in effect cause my daughter to have burn marks on her bottoms of her feet because there were so many warts they were trying to treat.

Finally, a young doctor came into me as she heard my daughter crying after the last cryotherapy and said can we try something less painful.

At this point I was willing to try anything because of the pain my daughter was experiencing. Then our doctor said, ?I know you are going to think I am crazy but let?s put some duct tape on the warts?. Both I and my daughter just laughed thinking our doctor was trying to be funny.

But all of a sudden she began to wrap duct tape around my daughter?s feet and told me to do the same wrapping procedure everyday for the next two to four weeks. She explained that the duct tape must be applied at night so that my daughter wouldn?t get the duct tape wet and also so she wouldn?t take the duct tape off because of her friends.

The doctor explained to me that when the duct tape is applied to plantars warts it doesn?t allow the plantar wart to breath and will actually cut off the oxygen supply causing the warts to stop spreading and eventually they will go away.

Well, with just a little faith in the young doctor, I was willing to try the idea of plantar wart duct tape! It has to be better than watching my baby cry having the warts removed through cryotherapy.

We reluctantly tried it for four weeks and believe it or not she is plantar wart free! My daughter is much happier now?and less traumatized by visits to the physician.

Plantars warts and duct tape really does work.

I will never laugh at this remedy again. I now always keep duct tape around just in case!

Skin Tags Treatment and Symptoms

To begin with, it is important to know that the symptoms of skin tag are not the same for all. This means that what the symptoms are for one person may not be the same for another. And this is precisely where the problem begins from making it difficult to properly diagnose the disease. Skin tags are a medical problem ? a skin disease that can appear almost anywhere on the skin of an affected individual. But the problem is these tags (that are actually growths or small bumps on the skin) look a lot like other skin disorders and are thus sometimes wrongly interpreted as other diseases and not skin tags or Acrochordons.

Yes that is right. As mentioned previously, the symptoms of skin tag are not the same for all. While in some they are brown colored, fleshy in appearance and smooth; in others the tags might be irregular in shape and look a lot more pigmented. They may also differ in size from anywhere between 1 mm to 5 cm?s.

So how to know if someone has skin tags or not? A good way to understand the symptoms is by noticing them at the very beginning ? just when the growths are beginning to appear on the skin. Because at the start, the tags look almost the same for all. They appear as small and soft bumps that seem to hang from the skin. And if they can be twisted with relative ease, then they are probably skin tags. These tags almost always come with no pain ? so this is another symptom.

Now that is a big question. Because many believe that since skin tags naturally occur with age and because of the fact that they are painless and are otherwise harmless ? no treatment is thus necessary. But the symptoms of skin tag can still be quite bother and a social embarrassment, particularly when they appear in the visible portions of the skin like arms, face etc. Also when the tags are twisted too much, they can lead to blood clots and when this happens it becomes painful.

So it is best to seek treatment when there are symptoms of skin tag and not neglect the condition. But sadly that is not the case, as a huge section of the population tends to do just this. And considering the fact that a big percentage of the adult population (some even say that as many as 50% or more seniors) is affected with the symptoms of skin tag, the problem suddenly assumes a big proportion.

Luckily, there are good solutions that can heal the symptoms of skin tag within just 2 to 6 weeks. Many of them are natural products that are completely safe to use as well. They can be used by pregnant women and children (though mostly aged people have the tags). And once the product has been used to cure the symptoms of skin tag, the tags never come back again.
